The True Legend of Katta-kun

In 1989, at a kindergarten in Japan, there was once a "student" who was not registered on the attendance list but often came to school. His name was Katta-kun, a pelican who lived in Tokiwa Park in Ube City, not far from the kindergarten.

Katta-kun hatched in 1985. Because he had been cared for by humans since he was young, he became very tame and friendly.

When he was about four years old, Katta-kun began frequently flying out of the park. One of his favorite places was the kindergarten, about 800 meters away. He would land in the schoolyard, walk along the corridors, and even enter the classrooms.

His habit of wandering around and interacting with local residents continued for many years. Katta-kun eventually died of natural causes in July 2008 at the age of 23.
